Interior framing today

They're framing the interior walls on the 2nd floor today. We're having some bad storms in Washington DC today and last night. Thought the wind was going to rip the whole house down last night! Had to get up again at 4am to soak up some of the water coming through the window openings. Definitely not as bad as when we didn't have a roof. Glad we didn't wait until this week to pull the roof off. I'll have some pictures of the framing up later. We're hoping to have the front porch framed out by the end of the week which means we can get our wall check to submit to the county. Then we can get our framing inspection and get our windows installed.

Why we love Craigslist...

$80 for old lumber from the roof and attic
$50 for our old glass door that led out to the screened porch
$40 for four of our old window sashes
We're doing our part to recycle as much as we can and it doesn't hurt to make a little money while doing it :)

New trees

We planted our two weeping willow trees in the far back of the yard. They will grow to about 40 feet so it should provide a nice visual block of the neighboring house. We took down the back half of the galvanized fence and plan to remove the rest of it soon. The yard should start coming together in a month or two.

Who needs a truck?

We fit two weeping willows, 4 bags of dirt and compost, 8 pieces of trim and a bunch of other stuff in the back of our little car. Go Mazda3!

Still a long way to go in the project...

But right now it feels like something is finally (almost) complete rather than just starting. I'm sure that feeling will go away when we start our portion of the work.

What a difference a day makes

Now this project is showing some major progress! Workers put up all the trusses and were still sheathing when I drove by a little while ago. Nice to know we shouldn't have to worry about any rain this weekend. Next week we should see the front porch come together and hopefully by then we'll have our siding picked out. We're still deciding between a few options. The outline of the house is coming together. I'll post some pics from the inside later. There's no interior walls on the 2nd floor so its one giant empty space at the moment.

A new day

The 2nd floor window openings are bigger than what is currently cut out. We'll have double windows in each room.

View into our master bedroom. That's where all the water got trapped and ending up coming back towards the rest of the house. Only a couple gallons leaked through to the basement so no damage. 

 

We had some heavier than expected rain last night. I got up around 4am to clear the tarp of water and that led to a little flooding over the new addition that starting leaking into our tiny kitchen. After a half hour of pushing the water around and some wet dry vac action we were semi-dry again. It seemed the rain stopped for the most part after that so nothing else leaked and no real damage happened other than us being a little tired this morning. Workers were there bright and early this morning so they better give us a proper roof by tonight!
